10 Ways to use your Garden Room

Your garden room is as unique as you are, and what you plan to use it for is an essential part of the design process and something you need to consider from the outset.

Your garden room is as unique as you are, and what you plan to use it for is an essential part of the design process and something you need to consider from the outset.

A garden room can be so much more than a home office. It could be a dedicated yoga space, a playroom or an outdoor bar.

Read on to find out how you could use your garden room and some of the additional features you could incorporate to make the space truly unique.

1. Home Office

A dedicated office space is often high on the list when it comes to building a garden room. After all, who wouldn't want to create a space that separates work from home?

A garden office will free up your time and help you to become more productive. If you want to use your garden room as a home office, we can factor in the position of your windows and doors to the initial design. This will ensure you have a good source of natural light as well as a shady, more private spot for your desk.

You'll also need to consider a high-speed broadband connection, a comfortable workstation and a place to relax when you take those well-earned breaks.

2. A Music Studio or Home Cinema

Making music and watching movies might be your favourite hobby, but it can create a lot of unwanted noise in your main property, not to mention disturbing the neighbours. Soundproofing your garden room is the perfect solution for this, and we can incorporate professional acoustic-grade insulation and plasterboard into the design. A complete audio-visual solution can also be supplied and installed by our AV partners, ensuring you have the latest technology available.

3. A Home Gym

Love your workouts but find it hard to get to the gym or prefer to exercise alone? A garden room gym is the perfect solution. If you have heavy gym equipment or apparatus that needs to be attached to the wall, we can incorporate the required reinforcements into the design to support the heavier weights. You could also consider including an integrated music system and recessed speakers if music is essential to your workout.

4. Yoga Studio

A garden room studio is the perfect way to connect with nature and will give you a peaceful place to practise, whether in a group or alone. You may not be outside, but the positioning of the windows and doors and adjustable lighting will help you feel closer to nature. Increasing the room's height will help you create a beautiful, bespoke yoga studio.

5. A Luxury Spa Retreat

Have you always wanted a hot tub, sauna, or a place to escape it all? Then why not turn your garden room into a mini spa retreat with a steam room, sauna, or hot tub?

If you plan to use your garden room as a mini spa retreat, it will need to be designed specifically with this in mind. As part of your complimentary site survey, we can advise on suitable materials for the walls and floors, as well as any additional requirements for drainage, ventilation and a connection to the mains water supply.

6. A Space to Entertain

If you love entertaining at home, your garden room could be the perfect place to do this. You could create a bar, games room or even a bespoke dining area.

An outdoor or indoor kitchen or BBQ area will help you create the perfect entertainment space. We can help you to source all the required materials to create the perfect entertainment space and incorporate a large verandah with integrated seating as part of the design and build.

7. A Space for the Children

Creating a space for your children as they grow will help you to free up space in your home. A playroom for the little ones could be the perfect place to indulge in messy play, create a secret den and give them the freedom to move quickly between the indoors and outdoors.

For older children, you could create the perfect place for them to hang out with their friends, indulge in hobbies or have a quiet space to do their homework.

8. Hobby Room

Whether it's sewing, photography, painting or pottery, a customised space will help you to develop your hobby and ensure you don't have to pack everything away when you are finished for the day.

If you plan on using your garden room as a hobby room, we will advise you on the lighting and power requirements that would be most suitable for that hobby as well as the type of flooring that would be most practical.

For sewing or painting, you will require a light, bright space. In contrast, if you want to use the room to develop photos, you will want to create a much darker space.

9. Guest Room

Your garden room could be the perfect luxury guest room or bolthole for friends and family, ensuring you and your guests spend quality time together without disturbing each other.

The inclusion of a sink, mini kitchen or even a bathroom will make the perfect addition to any garden guest room, creating a home-from-home. We can advise on any plumbing requirements, source your bathroom suite and oversee the full installation.

10. Therapy Room

If you run a therapy business, a garden room can make a great alternative to a private or shared office or shop space, creating a beautiful and welcoming space for your clients.

Whatever type of therapy you offer, your room will need to create a sense of calm. The correct lighting, decor and even bespoke carpentry will need to be factored in from the outset. You'll also need to connect to the main water and power supply to create a self-contained space. We can take all of this into consideration at the point of design.
